The Androscoggin River Watershed Council is working with the Mahoosuc Land Trust and Maine Audubon to welcome the public to a series of workshops about Beginning With Habitat, a program that brings maps and information about wildlife and habitat to local communities and landowners to consider when making decisions about development and conservation.

Landowners and others interested in conservation are invited to attend this presentation.  Barbara Charry of Maine Audubon will discuss Focus Species Forestry, a method to simplify the task of integrating timber management with conservation of biological diversity, including healthy and diverse plant and wildlife habitats. It accomplishes this by identifying and managing for a few Focus Species whose habitat needs cover those of many other species, and by ensuring that known rare species habitat or exemplary natural plant communities are conserved.  We will also broach various methods of conserving land, including conservation easements and conservation subdivisions, examine Beginning With Habitat maps of the local area, and encourage landowners to voice their questions and concerns about conservation.

All are welcome - landowners, developers, town officials, and anyone interested in protecting land and wildlife are encouraged to attend. A light dinner will be provided.

Register online or call (207) 754-8158.  Please spread the word!

The workshops will take place at the UMaine 4H Camp and Learning Center's new Lakeside Lodge in Bryant Pond, Maine. Click here for directions.
